Robin spent more than 10 years as a Songwriter/Lead Singer/keyboardist in Brisbane band The Boat People learning his craft from producers either he or the band worked with including Jonathan Burnside (Sleepy Jackson, Red House Painters), Greg Walker (Machine Translations, Clare Bowditch, CW Stoneking) and John Castle (Megan Washington, The Bamboos), Les Camacho (Iggy Pop, Massive Attack) and Brad Wood (Veruca Salt, The Sea and Cake, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins). The Boat People supported artists such as David Byrne and Crowded House, produced 3 critically acclaimed album, 6 triple J high-rotation singles and multiple UK and USA tours.
Originally recording to document and experiment with his own songwriting, he now also records others on location or in his Melbourne-based project studio, 'Glamour Trowel'.
He has recorded or mixed over 80 artists in the last 7 years - artists such as Eves Karydas, Sophie Koh, , Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi), Kate Miller-Heidke, Darling James, The Bedroom Philosopher and Dan Parsons, and worked on scoring or additional recording/performance supervision for TV series such as Ms. Fisher's Murder Mysteries (ABC), ABC2 Comedy Next Gen and theatre works by Elbow Room.
He has also co-written songs with Eves Karydas, Washington, Ella Hooper, Sophie Koh, Kav Temperley (Eskimo Joe), Robbie Miller, Olympia and Yes You and has played in Machine Translations, the Ella Hooper band, Dan Parsons band and The Hackkets (as part of Footscray Community Art Centre's Artlife Program).
Robin has also created and released his own music since The Boat People, including a pay-before-listening experiment called 'Mode C', a collaborative improvised songwriting project with Jackkie Marshal called 'Thin Air' and a solo album so be released in 2020 called CHANNEL..
He is a sessional lecturer as part of Melbourne Polytechnic's BA. Songwriting and Music Production and mentors young people as part of Darebin Council's 'Decibels Youth Music'.
